Deep underground in the heart of the Waikato are a series of unique caves that will take your breath away. Ruakuri Cave is home to an innovative spiral entrance, echoing waterfalls, and limestone that flow into delicate shawl-like formations.

Nearby, at the Waitomo Glowworm Cave, thousands of tiny glow worms cling to the cave ceiling, creating a starry sky within the underground night. You'll also see a deep limestone shaft and a soaring subterranean cathedral that will leave you speechless.

Take a journey through the forest to magnificent Aranui Cave. With a natural cave entrance, it is the smallest and most delicate of Waitomo's three main caves. Take pictures of the most beautiful collection of stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and decorative formations.

Take a guided tour through the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Be amazed by the thousands of magical glow worms above as you glide silently by boat and see ornate cave decorations. Become part of over 120 years of cultural and natural history.

RUAKURI CAVE

Ruakuri Cave offers a captivating blend of Waitomo's most compelling subterranean experiences. Journey down through the spectacular spiral entrance, and marvel at the softly folding shawl-like limestone formations and crystal tapestries. Hear the distant thunder of the subterranean waterfalls and get up close to the glow worms.

ARANUI CAVE

Just 5 minutes away from the Waitomo Glowworm Caves is Aranui Cave. Take pictures of the prehistoric limestone formations. These stalactites, stalagmites and flowstones come in pink, white and brown colours.

Ruakuri Cave and Aranui Cave tour times must be pre-booked, however tours run through the Waitomo Glowworm Caves throughout the day (during opening hours).
