Other Waitomo Attractions

Discover contrasting landscapes

Waitomo has carved its reputation on the sheer beauty and scale of its subterranean landscape. But above ground Waitomo's attractions and recreational pursuits on offer are almost as impressive.

From piloting a 4x4 quad-bike across rolling pastures and into rugged bush, to taking a trek on horseback to experience some of New Zealand's most visually dramatic scenery, a new adventure is always at hand.

If you crave a change of pace, however, stop awhile and immerse yourself in the rich history of Waitomo at the local museum or explore some of the many free Department of Conservation walking tracks that take in the natural flora and fauna around Ruakuri Scenic Reserve, Marakopa Falls and the Waitomo Walkway.

With such variety at hand, Waitomo is well worth taking a few days to discover properly.
