Gray Line New Zealand daily departing sightseeing bus tours
- 2 Day Tour
- Ex Auckland
- Operates Daily
This action-packed full day tour visits a number of leading attractions in the Waitomo and Rotorua regions.
Travel to Waitomo where you will join a guided tour through this world famous cave formation, climaxed by drifting silently in a boat through a glowworm cavern lit up with thousands of tiny glowworm lights.
On arrival in Rotorua, you will first have an introduction to New Zealand farming, with a 45-minute tour of an authentic working farm in all-weather, all-terrain vehicles. Watch a sheep being shorn, hand-feed the animals and finish with a sheep dog trial.
You then take a drive around Lake Rotorua and Government Gardens on your way to Te Puia where you'll enjoy a 45-minute Maori Cultural Performance inside Te Puia's sacred Marae (meeting house). Surrounded by the carvings of ancestors, visitors are treated to perfect harmonies, the Poi, Haka and Tititorea (stick dance).
Visit one of Rotorua's most famous attractions, the Whakarewarewa Thermal Seserve and Maori Arts and Crafts Institute before either going for a buffet dinner at the Heritage Hotel or choosing to be entertained with a traditional Maori Concert while dining on a sumptuous selection of food prepared by local Maori and cooked in geothermal steam underground Hangi.
You will stay overnight in Rotorua at the Holiday Inn Rotorua or a similar 4 star hotel that is located close to the geothermal activity of Whakarewarewa.
Day two allows passengers to wander through Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland to watch the Lady Knox Geyser erupt, then follow marked trails to see the boiling mud pools, the Champagne Pool, Devil's Cauldron and the colourful Artist's Palette.
Travel through the largest man made forest in the Southern Hemisphere, Tahukuri, arrive at the Aratiatia Rapids and view this spectacle as the flood gates of the Waikato River are opened before seeing the Huka Falls, formed where the Waikato River narrows from 100m to just 15m in width.
Stop for lunch (own expense) beside the largest lake in Australasia, Lake Taupo. Then head to the Wairakei Steam Fields feeling the energy of nature as the venting steam is captured for the generation of electricity. Return to Auckland in the evening.
The tour includes hot lunch (day 1), buffet dinner / hangi & concert (day 2) and evening snack served enroute to Auckland.
